
General Rules for Advertising on Yahoo!
Approval
Yahoo! European Operations will review and approve all
advertisements and prior to placement on the site. Yahoo! reserves the
right to preserve the user experience of its sites, and reserves the
right to remove any Advertisement which is deemed annoying and/or
harmful to our users at any time.
Looping/Animation
Yahoo! allows animation in ad units to a limit of 15 seconds. On all
properties other than the homepage Yahoo! has no looping restriction
except in case where it may annoy our users. If you are concerned about
this issue please contact your sales representative for details.
Rapidly strobing animation can cause discomfort in users - Yahoo!
reserves the right to refuse ads that contain extremely rapid
transitions and effects.
Audio in Ads
Audio stream must be initiated by user click. No mouseover
starts.
Audio stream may not exceed 30 seconds.
Audio must be encoded at volume less than or equal to -12 db.
All Ads must have at least stop/mute & start buttons. The preferred
user interface will include a play, stop/pause and a mute.
Linking URL
Linking URLs must be domain name based and cannot be the IP address,
ie. http://207.123.456.78 is not allowed, but
http://www.iloveturtles.com is allowed.
Plug-In Behaviour
Users must never be prompted for to download a plug-in. If plug-in
is not available, then an alternative image must be served.
Misleading Ads
Advertisements cannot mislead the user. For example, they may not
mimic or resemble Windows/Mac/Unix dialogue boxes, error messages, or
the like.
Examples: Windows OS dialog boxes which say "Deleting hard drive -
click to cancel".
Advertisements cannot resemble Yahoo! content.
Advertisements cannot contain graphics that simulate interactivity
(i.e. drop down menus, search boxes etc.) without that functionality
actually existing.
Advertisements cannot mimic news headlines in design, tone, 3rd
person sentence structure, or topic.
User Feedback
Yahoo reserves the right to include user feedback links to survey
user’s opinion.
Cookies
Cookies may not be set on the Yahoo! network except by parties with
a third party ad serving agreement.

Policy Guidelines for Ad Units that Collect Personal
Information
Yahoo! allows advertisements to collect personal identifying
information, however you may be asked to make changes to the ad units
or include additional disclosure in order to be acceptable for
advertising on Yahoo!
If you wish to collect personal information within advertisements,
those ad units will need to:
- Clearly identify your organization.
- Provide a direct link to your privacy policy, adjacent to the
submit button.
- Clearly identify the purpose for collecting the information.
Additional disclosure may be required, depending on the type of
advertisement. Please see your advertising representative for more
information on required notices. Yahoo! will also label all such ad
units with "ADVERTISEMENT".
Note: As stated above, cookies may not be set on the Yahoo!
network except by parties with a third party ad serving agreement.
